Klonopin (clonazepam) tips from pharmacists

  • When taken with alcohol or certain drugs (opioids), Klonopin can cause serious problems with breathing, which can lead to death. Avoid drinking alcohol. Always take the medicine as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Klonopin can make you dizzy and drowsy. Do not drive or do any activity that requires focus before you know how this medicine affects you.

  • If you have been on Klonopin for a while, do not stop taking it suddenly. This can lead to withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor about coming off Klonopin safely. Your doctor will advise a gradual reduction in the dose.

  • If you are using the dissolving tablet of Klonopin, remove it from the foil in the blister pack with dry hands only when you are ready to take a dose. Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to melt. Swallow it with saliva or water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
