  • To treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia, kidney infections, prostate infections, skin infections, and complicated urinary tract infections.
  • To treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and acute bacterial sinusitis when there are no alternative treatment options
  • To prevent anthrax after exposure
  • To treat and prevent plague

Levofloxacin Drug Class

Levofloxacin (lee-voe-flox-a-sin) belongs to a group called fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

Levofloxacin Age Range

Levofloxacin is approved for use in adults. It is not usually given to children younger than 18 years of age other than to treat or prevent plague or prevent anthrax after exposure. For children younger than 6 months of age or weighing less than 30 kilograms, the use of levofloxacin will be determined by a doctor.
