Lovastatin Uses

Cholesterol and other fatty substances can build-up in the walls of the arteries and block blood flow to the heart, brain, and other organs in the body. Statin therapy with lovastatin is used to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels and decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease.

There may be other uses of lovastatin. Your healthcare professionals can give you further lovastatin drug information.

Lovastatin Mechanism of Action

Lovastatin blocks HMG CoA reductase, an enzyme that the body needs for cholesterol biosynthesis. This drug works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body.
