- Available as a generic at a lower price
- Pantoprazole can be safely taken with another quick-acting acid-reducing medication like Tums or Maalox for immediate heartburn relief.
- Pantoprazole can be taken with or without food.
- Does not provide fast-acting relief for heartburn like anti-acid medications such as Tums, Rolaids, or Maalox
- Like other proton pump inhibitors, long-term use of pantoprazole can cause osteoporosis (weakened bones).
- Pantoprazole can cause low levels of magnesium and vitamin B-12 (cyanocobalamin)
- Only available with a prescription
