Penicillin V Potassium Tips from Pharmacists

  • Finish the prescribed course of penicillin V potassium even if your symptoms are gone. This is necessary to fully treat your infection and prevent drug resistant bacteria.

  • Penicillin V potassium is absorbed better on an empty stomach. However, if it causes an upset stomach, taking it with food might help.

  • Shake the oral liquid well before use. Store it in the refrigerator and discard unused liquid medicine after 14 days. Do not freeze.

  • Seek emergency medical care if you develop signs and symptoms of allergic reactions, such as skin rash, hives, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.

  • If you develop severe watery and bloody diarrhea after taking penicillin V potassium, call your doctor immediately (before taking anti-diarrhea medicine).
