Prazosin (Minipress) Tips from Pharmacists

  • Prazosin can make you feel dizzy and lightheaded. Take the first dose at night to reduce these adverse effects.

  • Go slowly from a lying or sitting position to standing to avoid falls due to lightheadedness and fainting. Tell your doctor if you have severe dizziness or if it continues after your body adjusts to the medicine. Your prazosin dose may need to be reduced.

  • Be careful while driving and doing other hazardous tasks until you know how this medicine affects you.

  • Do not stop taking Minipress (prazosin) without talking to your doctor, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often does not cause any specific symptoms but can significantly increase your cardiovascular risk. Your doctor will tell you how to lower your prazosin dose safely and switch you to another antihypertensive drug if needed.

  • Call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you develop a prolonged or painful erection.
