What is Provigil (modafinil) used for?

Provigil is a prescription drug used to treat excessive sleepiness in people with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift work disorder.

How does Provigil (modafinil) work?

Provigil is a wakefulness-promoting agent. It changes the levels of certain chemicals in the areas of the brain that control wakefulness and sleep. 

What are Provigil (modafinil) doses?

Provigil is available in tablet form in 100 mg and 200 mg doses. Doctors usually prescribe Provigil 200 mg once a day in the morning for narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea. The medication is taken 1 hour before the shift starts when used for shift work disorder.
