Senna Side Effects

Possible side effects of senna are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or still present after a few days.

  • Stomach pain
  • Stomach cramps
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Brown urine
  • Lightheadedness 

Some of the adverse effects of senna can be more serious. Stop taking senna and seek medical help or contact your doctor right away if you experience:

  • Rectal bleeding

Senna Overdose: In case of an overdose, get medical help immediately. Call your doctor or contact a poison control center right away (the national poison control center number is 1-800-222-1222). If a person has trouble breathing, cannot be awakened, or has had a seizure, call 911.
