Dyazide (TRIAMTERENE / HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE) Uses

Dyazide is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema.

There may be other uses of Dyazide—your pharmacist or doctor can give you further drug information.

Dyazide (TRIAMTERENE / HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE) Mechanism of Action

Dyazide contains two medications. Both are diuretics and they work by helping the kidneys get rid of excess water and salt. Triamterene is a potassium-sparing diuretic, meaning it allows the kidneys to remove excess fluid and electrolytes but prevents removal of potassium from the body. Dyazide is therefore prescribed to people who develop or are at risk of developing hypokalemia (low potassium) on hydrochlorothiazide alone.
