Hydrocortisone Acetate Tips from Pharmacists

  • Take hydrocortisone acetate with food or milk to lower the risk of an upset stomach.

  • Hydrocortisone acetate can increase your blood sugar and blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure or high blood sugar, talk to your provider about how often you should check your blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

  • Call your doctor right away if you develop signs and symptoms of an infection, such as fever, chills, sore throat, or cough, while on hydrocortisone acetate.

  • Do not get live vaccines during hydrocortisone acetate treatment without talking to your doctor first.

  • If you take hydrocortisone acetate for more than a week, your doctor will tell you how to lower the dose gradually. Follow the dosing instructions carefully to avoid serious side effects.
