Mirtazapine (Remeron) Uses

Mirtazapine is a prescription medicine that is used for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). It may also be used to treat psychiatric disorders like anxiety, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

There may be other uses of mirtazapine—your pharmacist or doctor can give you further mirtazapine drug information.

Mirtazapine (Remeron) Mechanism of Action

Mirtazapine works by increasing the amounts of chemicals called norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain. These chemicals are natural mood enhancers and help to maintain mental balance.

Mirtazapine (Remeron) Doses

Mirtazapine is available as a 7.5 mg, 15 mg, 30 mg, and 45 mg tablet and a 15 mg, 30 mg, and 45 mg orally disintegrating tablet. The usual starting dose of mirtazapine is 15 mg once a day, usually in the evening. Your health care professional may increase your mirtazapine dose every 1-2 weeks, depending on your response.
