Mycophenolate mofetil is used to prevent organ rejection in people who have received a heart, liver, or kidney transplant.

Mycophenolate mofetil weakens the body’s immune system and prevents it from attacking the newly transplanted organ.
Mycophenolate Mofetil (Cellcept) Doses
Mycophenolate mofetil is available as a 500 mg tablet, 180 mg and 360 mg delayed-release tablets (Myfortic), 250 mg capsule, powder for 200 mg/mL oral suspension, and solution for intravenous injection. The recommended doses are as follows in adults:
- Kidney transplant patients: 1 gram twice daily (2 grams total daily dose).
- Heart transplant patients: 1.5 grams twice daily (3 grams total daily dose).
- Liver transplant patients: 1.5 grams twice daily (3 grams total daily dose).
In pediatric patients, the dose of mycophenolate mofetil is calculated based on body surface area.
The dose of mycophenolic acid (Myfortic) delayed-release tablets in adult kidney transplant patients is 720 mg twice daily (1,440 mg total daily dose).
