Neomycin-Polymyxin B-Dexamethasone (Maxitrol) Side Effects

Possible side effects of neomycin-polymyxin B-dexamethasone are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if they are severe or last more than a few days.

  • Temporarily blurred vision and eye irritation

Rarely, neomycin-polymyxin B-dexamethasone can cause more serious side effects. Call your health care professional right away or seek immediate medical attention in the emergency room if you develop the following serious symptoms:

  • An unusual or allergic reaction with skin rash, hives, itching
  • Swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, throat, hands, lower legs, ankles, or feet
  • Trouble breathing or swallowing
  • Chest tightness
  • Hoarseness
  • Dizziness 
  • Fainting
  • Eye pain, redness, swelling, irritation, burning, itching
  • Worsening eye discharge
  • Red or scaly patches near the eye or eyelid

Neomycin-polymyxin B-dexamethasone (Maxitrol) Overdose: In case of an overdose of neomycin-polymyxin B-dexamethasone, call your doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 if a person has collapsed, cannot breathe, has had a seizure, or cannot be awakened.
