Norethindrone Tips from Pharmacists

  • You can take the norethindrone pill with or without food. But it’s important to take the pill at around the same time every day to maintain plasma levels. Set a reminder or alarm to help you remember to take your pill at the same time every day.

  • You might experience light bleeding or spotting between periods for the first few months. Tell your doctor if this continues.

  • In case you miss one or more doses of norethindrone and do not have your period, you could be pregnant. Stop taking the pill, use another method of contraception in the meantime, and call your healthcare provider.

  • Call your doctor if you miss two periods, even if you haven’t missed a dose of norethindrone.

  • Do not take a break between packs. Start a new pack of norethindrone the next day after finishing a pack.

  • Norethindrone does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, or genital warts. Use condoms during sexual intercourse to lower your risk of STDs.
