Oxybutynin Chloride ER (DITROPAN XL) Tips from Pharmacists

  • If overactive bladder is affecting your lifestyle, for example, leading to decreased sexual activity, oxybutynin may help relieve your symptoms.

  • Oxybutynin chloride ER can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision. Do not drive or do anything that requires your full concentration until you know how it affects you.

  • Taking the long acting form (extended release tablet) before bedtime may help if you experience drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision.

  • Avoid alcohol while on oxybutynin because this can make side effects worse.

  • Do not break, crush, or chew the extended release tablets. If you have trouble swallowing pills, talk to your doctor about taking oxybutynin liquid.

  • This medicine comes in a non-absorbable shell that releases the drug at a controlled rate. Do not worry if you see the empty tablet shell in your stool.
