Oxymetazoline (Rhofade) Uses

Oxymetazoline topical treatment is for persistent facial erythema (redness) caused by rosacea in adults.

Oxymetazoline nasal spray (Afrin) is used for temporary relief of nasal and sinus congestion caused by the common cold, hay fever, allergies, and sinusitis.

There may be other uses of oxymetazoline—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Oxymetazoline (Rhofade) Mechanism of Action

Oxymetazoline narrows the blood vessels in the skin to help reduce facial erythema.

Oxymetazoline (Rhofade) Doses

Oxymetazoline is available as a 1% pump and tube of cream. The usual dose is the application of a pea-sized amount in a thin layer on the affected facial skin (forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin) once a day.
