Ozempic tips from pharmacists

  • Ozempic works in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise.

  • Ozempic should be injected into the skin of your upper arm, stomach, or thigh. Do not inject this medicine into a vein or muscle.

  • Inject Ozempic on the same day of the week every week. You can change your injection day, but make sure two successive doses are at least 48 hours apart when making a switch.

  • Never share your Ozempic pen with others. Do not reuse needles. This can put you at risk of serious infections.

  • Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry before injecting Ozempic. Insert the needle into your skin, making sure the dose counter is visible. Press the dose button until the dose counter indicates 0, and you feel or hear a click. Keep the needle in your skin for a count of 6. Then, remove the needle from your skin, and without replacing the cap, remove the needle from the Ozempic pen. Discard the needle in a protective container for sharps. Store this container carefully, out of reach of children and pets.

  • If you miss a dose of Ozempic, take it as soon as you remember, up to 5 days after the scheduled day. If it is more than 5 days, then skip it and take the next dose. Contact your doctor if you haven’t taken Ozempic for more than 2 weeks.

  • Store unused Ozempic pens in the refrigerator. Opened pens can be stored at room temperature.

  • Make a note of the date you start using an Ozempic pen. Discard the pen after 56 days, even if there is some medication remaining in the pen.
