Tacrolimus (Protopic) Uses

Tacrolimus ointment is used to treat the symptoms of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis in people who have not responded to other medications. Atopic dermatitis is a skin disease that causes symptoms such as dryness, redness, itching, and scaly rashes.

Oral tacrolimus (brand name Prograf) is used to prevent rejection of a transplanted organ in transplant patients who have received kidney, liver, heart, or lung transplants.

There may be other uses of tacrolimus—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further tacrolimus drug information.
