Testosterone (AndroGel) Uses

Testosterone topical replaces the endogenous testosterone that is normally produced in the body. It is used to treat low serum testosterone concentration due to primary hypogonadism (a condition in which the body’s sex organs produce low or no testosterone). It is also used to treat low average serum testosterone concentrations due to disorders of the pituitary gland or hypothalamus in the brain. Testosterone gel can also be used in men who have low circulating testosterone concentrations due to problems with the testicles, for example, damage or injuries to the testicles, removal of the testicles because of cancer, chemotherapy or radiation, infections, or autoimmune diseases.

This medication is not for low serum testosterone concentration related to aging.

There may be other uses of testosterone—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Testosterone (AndroGel) Mechanism of Action

Testosterone topical is a synthetic form of the natural testosterone hormone. It is used as testosterone replacement therapy in adult men who are not making enough testosterone naturally.
