How To Use Trulicity

Trulicity comes as a liquid solution in a pre-filled pen for subcutaneous injection under the skin. The Trulicity pen delivers one dose at a time. This medication is typically injected once weekly into the skin of the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

You should rotate between injection sites every week. Trulicity should not be injected into a vein or muscle. Read the manufacturer’s instructions about how to use Trulicity. If you do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

You can administer the Trulicity injection at any time of the day, regardless of meal times. You should inject Trulicity on the same day of the week every week. If you wish to change the day of the week you give yourself a Trulicity injection, make sure it has been at least 3 days since your last dose.

You can inject insulin and Trulicity in the same area, but do not give yourself the injections right next to each other.

Make sure the Trulicity injection solution is clear, colorless, and free of particles before injecting it. Do not use the injection solution if it is cloudy, colored, or contains floating particles.

Do not use a Trulicity injection pen that is past its expiration date. Never share a pen with another person or reuse a needle. Remove the needle immediately after injecting a Trulicity dose and dispose of it in a puncture-resistant container.

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and use Trulicity exactly as directed by your healthcare professional. Do not use more or less of this medicine or use it more or less frequently than prescribed by your doctor.

Your doctor may start you on a low dose of Trulicity and increase your dose after one week. You should know that Trulicity works along with diet and exercise to help control diabetes and aid weight loss. However, it is not a cure for diabetes. Continue using Trulicity even if you feel well. Do not stop using this medication without talking to your doctor.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Trulicity, take the medicine as soon as you remember and continue with subsequent doses as scheduled. However, if there are less than 3 days left for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store your Trulicity pen in its original carton in the refrigerator, away from light. Do not freeze this medication. You can also keep a Trulicity pen at room temperature for up to 14 days.

Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused Trulicity. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through your local waste disposal company or a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal. Your pharmacist or healthcare professional will tell you how to dispose of the puncture-resistant container with used needles.
