Alfuzosin Uses

Alfuzosin is used to treat urinary symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland in men. Symptoms of BPH can include urinary hesitancy, frequency, urgency, dribbling, weak stream, pain with urination, and incomplete emptying of the bladder.

Note: Although alfuzosin lowers blood pressure, it is not used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).

There may be other uses of alfuzosin—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Alfuzosin Mechanism of Action

Alfuzosin blocks alpha receptors, which relaxes the muscles in the prostate gland and urinary bladder. This allows urine to flow more easily and relieves urinary symptoms.

Alfuzosin Doses

Alfuzosin is available as a 10-mg long-acting (extended-release) tablet. The dose of alfuzosin is 10 mg once a day with food. You should take this medicine with the same meal each day.
