Ciprofloxacin (Ciloxan) Side Effects

Possible side effects of topically applied ciprofloxacin are listed below. Call your doctor if they are severe or still present after a few days:

  • Temporary eye redness, burning, itching, crusting, or irritation
  • Eye pain
  • Blurred vision
  • Grittiness (a feeling that there’s something in your eye)
  • Bad taste

Some of the adverse effects of ciprofloxacin are more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you develop the following serious symptoms:

  • Skin rash, itching, hives (signs of an allergic reaction)
  • Swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, mouth, throat, hands, lower legs, ankles, or feet
  • Hoarseness
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing

The above list may not include all the potential side effects of ciprofloxacin ophthalmic. Contact your healthcare provider if your side effects are unusual or severe or they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Ciprofloxacin (Ciloxan) Overdose: n case of a topical overdose (if you instill too many drops of ciprofloxacin ophthalmic), wash your eye with warm tap water. If you continue to have eye irritation, call your doctor. You can also call the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
