Dexmethylphenidate Side Effects

Possible side effects of dexmethylphenidate are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects if they are severe or persist after a few days.

  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Heartburn or indigestion
  • Reduced appetite and weight loss
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Jitteriness or nervousness
  • Trouble sleeping

Some of the adverse effects of dexmethylphenidate are more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical attention if you develop the following serious symptoms:

  • Extreme tiredness
  • Difficult or slow speech
  • Weakness or numbness in a limb
  • Vision changes such as blurred vision
  • Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there)
  • Delusions (believing things that are not true)
  • Paranoia (being suspicious of others)
  • Seizures
  • Depression or mood changes
  • Motor or verbal tics
  • Rash, hives, itching, blistering, peeling, purple blotches in the skin
  • Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, or eyes
  • Trouble breathing
  • Fever
  • Joint pain
  • Frequent, painful, or prolonged erections
  • Pain, numbness, temperature sensitivity in the fingers or toes 
  • Unexplained wounds on the fingers or toes 
  • Changes in skin color (blue, red, pale fingers or toes)

Dexmethylphenidate Overdose: In case of an overdose of dexmethylphenidate, call your doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Overdose symptoms may include vomiting, muscle twitching, uncontrolled shaking, sweating, flushing, fever, headache, rapid or irregular heartbeat, dry mouth, enlarged pupils, agitation, confusion, hallucinations, behavior changes including inappropriate happiness, loss of consciousness, and seizures.
