Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) tips from pharmacists

  • If the medication causes an upset stomach, taking Norco with food or milk may help.

  • Drinking plenty of water and eating high-fiber foods can help prevent constipation while on Norco.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol while on Norco. Doing so can cause potentially fatal side effects.

  • Norco can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Therefore, you should be careful while driving and doing other activities that require focus until you know how it affects you.

  • Give your doctor a complete list of your medications. Be aware that many over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol contain acetaminophen. You should ensure that your total daily intake of acetaminophen from Norco and other sources does not exceed 4,000 mg. Higher doses of acetaminophen can cause liver damage.

  • Take Norco precisely as prescribed to lower your risk of tolerance and dependence. Don’t stop taking the medication suddenly after a long treatment - this can lead to withdrawal symptoms.
