  • Norco contains two different pain medications and is more powerful than over-the-counter pain pills. As a result, it works well to control pain for short periods, such as pain control after a transplant or other surgery.
  • It is available as a low-cost generic version.
  • The combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen is available in liquid form (brands like Lortab Elixir) for people who have trouble swallowing tablets.

  • Norco contains a controlled substance, hydrocodone. The federal government tracks Norco prescriptions to prevent misuse. This medication cannot be refilled at any pharmacy other than the one authorized on your prescription.
  • Long-term use of Norco can lead to tolerance and dependence.
  • This medication can cause a potentially life-threatening slowing of breathing, especially in combination with alcohol or other medications that affect breathing.
  • Norco can cause problems in newborn infants if used during pregnancy.
