Hydroquinone (Blanche) Uses

Hydroquinone is a depigmenting or skin lightening agent. It is used to treat pigmentation caused by skin conditions such as melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, chloasma, solar lentigines, and freckles.

It is worth noting that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that OTC skin lightening products containing hydroquinone as the active ingredient are unapproved and not generally recognized as safe and effective. Currently, the only FDA-approved drug that contains hydroquinone is the prescription cream Tri-Luma, which contains three active ingredients - fluocinolone acetonide, hydroquinone, and tretinoin. Tri-Luma is used for short-term treatment of dark patches caused by moderate to severe melasma. There are no FDA-approved or legally marketed OTC skin lightening products containing hydroquinone.
