Insulin Aspart Uses

Insulin aspart is a lab-made version of the natural human insulin hormone. It is used to achieve glycemic control and helps to lower blood glucose levels in people with type 1 diabetes (a condition in which the body doesn’t have enough insulin) and type 2 diabetes (a condition in which there is impaired glucose tolerance and insulin resistance or lack of response to insulin).

There may be other uses of insulin aspart—your pharmacist or care team can give you further drug information.

Insulin Aspart Mechanism of Action

Insulin aspart and other insulin analogs help to lower blood glucose by replacing the natural insulin hormone in the body. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas, and it helps to regulate blood glucose levels by moving sugar from the bloodstream to the cells in the body for use as energy. Insulin also inhibits hepatic glucose production (stops the formation of glucose in the liver).

Insulin Aspart Doses

Insulin aspart FlexPen (NovoLog FlexPen) is a single-patient prefilled insulin pen that contains 300 units of rapid-acting insulin analog. The pen can be adjusted in 1-unit dosing amounts from 1 to 60 units of insulin aspart.

Insulin aspart also comes as a solution (NovoLog, Fiasp) and suspension (NovoLog Mix 70/30).
