How To Use Triamcinolone Acetonide (TRIANEX)

Triamcinolone acetonide comes in the form of ointment, cream, lotion, spray, and dental paste to be used 2-4 times a day. Apply the cream, ointment, or lotion in a thin film to normal intact skin and rub it in gently. The dental paste should be used after meals and at bedtime.

If you are using the aerosol spray on your scalp, allow the medicine to dry before washing your hair. Spray the medicine from 3-6 inches away. Avoid inhaling the vapors. Cover your face and eyes if you are spraying near your face. It should take you around 2 seconds to cover an area that is approximately the size of your hand. The aerosol spray is flammable. Stay away from open flames and heat and avoid smoking while using the triamcinolone acetonide spray.

Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully. Use triamcinolone acetonide exactly as prescribed. Do not use more or less of this medicine or use it more or less frequently than prescribed. Using this medicine for prolonged periods can lead to systemic toxicity and serious side effects. An effective therapeutic regimen consists of using the least potent steroid for the shortest period of time.

Do not apply this medication on other parts of your body or use it to treat skin conditions other than what it is prescribed for. Avoid using occlusive dressings on the treated area unless your doctor tells you to. Also, do not use other skin medications on the treated area without talking to your doctor.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of triamcinolone acetonide, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store triamcinolone acetonide at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container. Do not freeze the medicine. Do not store the medication in the bathroom where it can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused triamcinolone acetonide should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw triamcinolone acetonide in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded triamcinolone acetonide is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company. Learn more about proper medication disposal
