Zestoretic Tips from Pharmacists

  • You can take Zestoretic at any time of day, with or without food. However, if you have gastrointestinal side effects, taking your medicine with food might help. If you have dizziness or drowsiness, taking Zestoretic before bedtime is advisable. However, keep in mind that this medicine can make you urinate more, so take it at least 4 hours before bedtime.

  • Zestoretic can lower blood pressure and cause dizziness, especially when you first start treatment and after dose changes. Get up slowly from a sitting or lying position to avoid falls.

  • Check your blood pressure at home and keep a diary of the readings. Bring the diary to your healthcare appointments. This will help your doctor see whether Zestoretic is working to control your blood pressure.

  • Do not stop taking Zestoretic without talking to your doctor first. Stopping this medication abruptly can lead to a dangerous rise in blood pressure. Your doctor may tell you to reduce the dose gradually.

  • Keep all your healthcare appointments during treatment with lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide. Your provider may want to check certain lab tests.

  • Eat a healthy, low-salt diet while on this medicine to keep your blood pressure in check.

  • Do not take salt substitutes or potassium supplements without your provider’s approval.
