Amoxicillin (Moxatag) tips from pharmacists

  • Most people start feeling better after a few days of amoxicillin treatment. However, you should NOT stop taking the medicine until you finish the prescribed doses. Stopping the antibiotic treatment midway can lead to antibiotic resistance in bacteria. The infection can come back and be more difficult to treat.

  • Shake the liquid amoxicillin bottle before use. It is preferable to store the liquid in the refrigerator (this makes it taste better too). Throw any unused liquid amoxicillin after 14 days - it is no longer fit for use.

  • If you have stomach upset or diarrhea with amoxicillin, taking it with food can help. However, if you develop severe watery or bloody diarrhea —with or without stomach cramps and fever—contact your doctor without delay.
