Side Effects


What are amoxicillin side effects?

The most common side effects of amoxicillin are listed below. Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away.

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Taste changes
  • Headache

Some side effects of amoxicillin are more serious and require medical attention. Please stop taking amoxicillin, contact your doctor, or get emergency medical treatment if you experience the following symptoms: 

  • Wheezing, difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, hands, or feet
  • Rash, hives, itching

Severe diarrhea with watery or bloody stools, with or without stomach cramps and fever (these symptoms can occur even 2 months or more after amoxicillin treatment)

Amoxicillin overdose: Contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately in case of an amoxicillin overdose. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, decreased urination, cloudy or bloody urine, swelling in any part of the body, and confusion. NOTE: Amoxicillin is a prescription drug to be used only by you. Fill your prescription and never share your amoxicillin with others or use someone else’s medicine.
