Meet Our MVP: Gary

Gary joined BuzzRx in April 2023 and, because of his success and dedication as a BuzzRx Representative, has been named our Q4 2023 MVP!

Out in the field, Gary covers the state of Utah, and the savings he brings to his community give back to Make-A-Wish® Utah and the ASPCA®

“BuzzRx's commitment to charities was one of the reasons for me joining the Company,” Gary shared.

Here are some of his secrets to success at BuzzRx.

What do you like most about working for BuzzRx? How have you grown throughout your time with the company?

I was looking for a new sales job where I could earn substantial income, operate with a degree of independence, and be able, with a proven program, to personalize it to fit my approach. Meeting challenges each month and growing out a territory has led to a renewed sense of well-being and the realization that I'm doing good things for the world.

What are some of your keys to success?

Consistently visit your accounts each month and always be prepared. Know where you’re going in advance. Get out the door early to hit twenty or more sites a day. As film director Spike Lee recently told actor/director Bradley Cooper about preparation, “You gotta put the work in, or you’re faking it…There are no shortcuts.” If you want to graduate as soon as possible, which was my personal goal, then you have to, as Tony Robbins said, go at it with “all-out, maximum effort.” Work weekends and nights to finish your visits, prepare your routes in advance, and know what you’ll say and hand out to motivate accounts. Be prepared. No shortcuts! Throw yourself completely into this gig and graduate as soon as possible to reap the financial rewards and work/life balance you crave.

Be cheerful at each account visit. Be someone they are happy to see. Keep your visit brief because healthcare workers are really busy. Sometimes, you should merely say hello, drop off materials, and tell them they’re doing a great job. Be a chameleon: Adjust your approach to fit the environment and various personalities—target and build relationships with those who can function as BuzzRx champions.

What did you do before BuzzRx? How has that influenced your experience working for the company?

I’ve had several stints in financial services, was Vice President of a medical marketing company, and for ten years owned a wine distribution and consulting company. As a driven, experienced sales guy, I brought to BuzzRx a commitment to show success quickly, exceed metrics each month, and always be sensitive and responsive to individual clients' needs and personalities.

Tell me something about yourself that you would like readers and BuzzRx colleagues to know.

I'm the biographer of saxophonist Pepper Adams. See pepperadams.com. I've written a two-volume study of Adams and several other books about jazz.

Is there a story from the field that has impacted you?

While working with healthcare workers, I have observed that unless I could somehow brighten their day, I would be viewed as another annoyance. Also, there didn’t seem to be much rationale for them to care about BuzzRx. It seemed like we were just another discount card.

I started to see incremental growth in May and June, my first two months, as my accounts got to know me. Moreover, bit by bit, they realized they were helping their customers save more money than before with other cards, plus they were contributing to charities. Each month, I reminded my clients of their current numbers and progress toward the goals I set for each account. With my refined methodology, sales began to take off in June, and it’s been a rocket ride ever since. In eight months, I’ve moved from my predecessor’s amount of 220 scripts a month to over 6,000.

Gary’s manager, Tim, shared, “Gary has been a pleasure to work with, and seeing his growth in a territory that had not been previously producing is so cool to see. Not only is Gary a hard worker, but he's also a great teammate, always has a positive attitude, and is open to suggestions on how to improve. I'm looking forward to 2024 and what we can do to build upon his success from 2023. Congratulations, Gary, you deserve it!”
